Abstract

Protected cultivation of vegetables means their production in a private facility called greenhouses or green houses for the purpose of protecting them from adverse weather conditions, and thus can be produced in non-seasons. Vegetables in these houses have environmental conditions that are suitable for heat and light intensity. In modern types of greenhouses, all environmental factors are controlled and modified to suit the growth of the plant.
The study identified the most important covered vegetable crops in the study area. Six main types were grown within the study area: tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, trees and camels. In 1995 there were about (54870) agricultural tunnels which constituted an area of (25155.15) dunums, which increased in 2013. The total expenditure amounted to (180715) agricultural tunnels, which was an area of 45014.5 dunums, then fell in 2018. (71168.58) dunums, the number of tunnels exploited in the cultivation of vegetables C covered varies from year to year depending on the security and economic situation of the province.
The study recommends that there be a clear policy of the state towards agricultural crops destined for export before the season of agriculture, and through this policy can expand the exploitation of arable land for the purpose of obtaining a higher level of production. Narrowing the productivity gap between the extension fields and farmers' fields by increasing the efficiency of the extension agencies so that a complete basket of vegetables is secured.
