Evaluation of Solid Waste Management in Tikrit City
Abstract
The daily activities of human beings are generated by many waste, including household waste, which is one of the most harmful effects on human lives. The household waste in Tikrit is one of the important issues that the city municipality pays great attention to in order to preserve the health and safety of humans and the environment. This research aims at identifying household waste, its sources, methods and methods used in its management through the collection and transport operations until disposal. Tikrit city suffers in recent years from obvious deficiencies by the municipality in its administration due to the increase in population And the lack of financial allocations necessary for this process with the increase in the amount of household waste amounting to (137,964) tons per day and the rate (1,11) Kg / person / day. These quantities require sufficient equipment, machinery and labor to deal with them in terms of collection and transport, as well as a landfill site that meets the environmental and health requirements. The study area lacks such a location, The land is exposed and the waste is thrown in it and is burned from time to time and is located with the direction of the prevailing winds on the city and cause many of the environmental effects of the health of the city in general and the neighborhoods close to it in particular.
